The Community Planning and Development Units with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing are offering a challenging opportunity for students to gain knowledge and practical experience in land use planning. The Student Planners will provide support to a team in the delivery of community planning and development programs to municipalities, planning boards and development proponents in Central and Northeastern Ontario .

You will: provide assistance with the interpretation and analysis of land use related data, planning proposals, and applications; provide research and analysis support related to the implementation of provincial policy and plans; assist with preparation for Ontario Municipal Board hearings; participate in other land use planning projects related to the program service delivery function of the office.

This position will require the ability to travel within the region occasionally to provide support in field work.

Qualifications:ability to acquire basic knowledge of relevant planning legislation and provincial land use planning policies; good verbal and written communication skills; good research, analytical and problem-solving skills to assist with compiling, tracking and interpreting land use planning documents and data; good organizational and time management skills to support multiple tasks; and computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Eligible candidates must be a student in a secondary school, college or university and be eligible to work in Canada; students that are finishing their final year at school are eligible to apply for a period of six months following the completion of the requirements for graduation from an educational institution.
