Position Summary

The Public Affairs Division requires a Consultant, Communication Services.  The successful candidate reports to the Director, Strategic Communications and will be expected to provide superior communications support to a diverse and complex internal and external audience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic communications advice to corporate divisions, project leads and unit managers to develop communication plans in support of key business initiatives
  • Participates in developing annual internal corporate communication plans and strategies that support the Community Management Plan (our strategic plan)
  • Proactively works with unit managers and liaises with the Public Affairs team in identifying potentially contentious issues to prepare key messages and appropriate communications strategies
  • Works with the Public Affairs team and other key areas to support staff throughout the organization to ensure effective employee communication
  • Implements and manages communication vehicles that promote two-way communication practices in the organization and with stakeholders
  • Monitors and measures the effectiveness of various communications programs, assesses communication vehicles, tactics and practices on an ongoing basis
  • Writes and edits various communication materials
  • Works collaboratively with Public Affairs colleagues in support of deliverables and objectives of the Division

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma from a recognized university or college in Marketing, Communications or Journalism is preferred
  • Accreditation from the Canadian Public Relations Society or International Association of Business Communications is an asset
  • Experience in writing content for Web sites and intranets
  • Minimum of 5  years solid business writing experience in corporate communications with a focus on internal and/or employee communications
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Ability to understand and apply clear language and design principles
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal communication, interview and research skills
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Knowledge of computerized business applications, such as QuarkXpress, PhotoShop and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability and sensitivity in providing respectful service to diverse populations (age, race, language, gender, sexual orientation, culture and disability)
