Congress of Black Women of Canada – Mississauga Chapter

$1000 Adult Scholarship

One scholarship to be awarded annually – starting June 2010


To assist financially challenged black women who have identified the need to return to school to further their education. To invest in our community where black women and their families are empowered to participate fully in society and reach their highest potential.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

ü An adult black female, Canadian Citizen or permanent resident, residing in Halton/Peel

ü Have never received a scholarship from the Congress

ü Between the age of 25 and 45

ü Enrolled in a diploma or certificate program at an accredited Canadian College , University, or vocational/technica l institute.

Selection Criteria

ü High School Graduate

ü Financial Need

ü Recognized contribution to the Black Community

Application Requirements

ü A completed application form

ü An essay describing the reasons why you would be a worthy recipient of the Congress of Black Women of Canada – Mississauga Chapter Adult Scholarship.

o Include your contribution to the Black Community, other volunteer activities, and what motivated your contribution

o Your academic achievements, your most important accomplishments and your future goals

ü A completed financial schedule stating budget, including information on expected sources of funding (e.g. other scholarships received, student loan, etc.), family income and related information, to assist us in determining financial need

ü 2 letters of reference.
