The Toronto Police Service will begin to accept applications for summer employment opportunities, as part of this year’s Youth in Policing Initiative.
Under the program, 150 youth will be placed in jobs with various departments of the Toronto Police Service.
Youth who reside in Jamestown are eligible to apply

Applicants must:
– be students between the ages of 14 and 17
– not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted.  Must not have any charges pending before the courts
– be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident,
– be legally eligible to work in Canada,
– returning to school in September.

Every summer, 150 youth are hired from Priority Neighbourhoods to work throughout the Toronto Police Service.  They are placed in 45 locations, including all Divisions and support units like the Marine Unit, the Mounted Unit, and the Forensics Identification Unit.

In addition to their daily duties, these students also have the opportunity to work on community projects and at cultural events across the City such as the Caribana Parade and Taste of the Danforth.  All students are taken on comprehensive tours in order to expose them to different areas of the Service including Police Dog Services, Communications (911 Call Centre), the Emergency Task Force and the Police Museum.

All in all, students conclude their summer with a solid work experience, a better understanding of the Toronto Police Service and friendships with other students and members of the Service that they’ll take with them in their futures.  This initiative is more than just a job – it’s an experience!

The Youth in Policing Initiative is a unique opportunity that is not to be missed.  If you know or work with youth aged 14-17, who reside in one of the priority neighbourhoods, who don’t have a criminal record and who may be interested in working with the Toronto Police for the summer, please encourage them to apply.
